Although tractors are built to be tough and work in rough conditions, it’s not unusual for them to get stuck in the mud. This can be a hiccup in a busy work day, so it’s important to have a few ideas of how to get your equipment unstuck! Our team at Central Machinery Sales strives to be a resource for all of your needs, so we’ve put together a few quick tips for getting out of the mud.

1. Lift the Implements

If you find yourself stuck, the first thing you’ll want to do is raise your implements. Keeping any attachments or implements lowered can cause serious damage to your equipment, so you’ll need to raise them and keep them locked in that position.

2. Evaluate the Situation

After you’ve safely removed your implements from the situation, it’s time to take a look at the situation. You may need to climb down from the cab to determine which direction you should move, but in some scenarios you may be able to have a look from the window.

3. Begin Moving

Now that you have an idea of what you’re working with, you can begin moving your tractor forward or backward to get free of the mud! As you begin moving, pay attention to your tires and if any of them are able to gain traction. Burying yourself deeper won’t help, so don’t just keep spinning your wheels if you’re not moving. You may need to find boards to place under the tires or have someone help out with a chain.
